Veterans may qualify for free legal help through nonprofit veteran legal clinics, law school clinics, and organizations like Veterans Legal Services, National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP), and Stateside Legal. Coverage includes benefits appeals, discharge upgrades, housing, and family law.
Stateside LegalVeterans with less-than-honorable discharges may be eligible for an upgrade through the Discharge Review Board or the Board for Correction of Military Records. An upgrade can restore access to VA benefits, GI Bill, and other services. Many veterans receive upgrades years after separation — it's worth applying.
